The Path to Legacy: Secrets of Lux Astra
The team had to split up: Danaya went to Pale-Bank, while the others headed to Lux Astra. The monks gave the adventurers a cart and horses and asked them to deliver a batch of beer to Lux Astra. On the way, Aden and Bro noticed a strange item with Essu—it looked like either a dagger or a druidic amulet. The friends tried to ask him about it, but Essu chose not to answer, transformed into a raven, and began circling above the cart.
Meanwhile, in Pale-Bank, Danaya found the Lian family and gave them White Milk: six drops per person for each day that had passed since their contact with the powder, dissolved in hot tea. The family began to recover. Accompanied by Elro, Danaya hurried to Tulgga’s home but was too late—the dwarven woman had already turned to ice. Almost without hope, Danaya went to the Quakers’ cave, where she found dead frogs, a dead halfling, and a crater where Rasca had once stood. In the corner was a chest. When Danaya opened it, the same blue powder poured over her and her cat. Inside the chest was a journal written in Draconic. Danaya returned to the tavern, prepared a remedy for herself and her cat from the “cold sorrow” and recovered.
Elro told her that not everyone had survived from the squad sent after the imposter posing as Aden, and his brother, who led the squad, had been found murdered on an altar in the temple of the Raven Queen. Elro swore to avenge his brother.
Danaya left Pale-Bank and caught up with her team. Together, they arrived in Lux Astra. As they approached, they saw many performers trying to secure an audition. At the gate with the guards was their familiar bard Aelina, arguing her way in. She had signed up for the contest with a troupe of five but arrived alone, as her companions had joined another ensemble. The group joined Aelina, and together, they entered the settlement.
While they were looking around, a well-dressed, fair-haired young man approached, introducing himself as Sot Sylvester. He mentioned that on Lux Astra’s anniversary, its leader would share something interesting and that a house would be sold at auction.
After some rehearsal, the group performed a brilliant musical about two fairies captured by a devious kobold and secured a contract to perform at Lux Astra’s anniversary celebration in a week.
The adventurers decided to explore the city. A guard they met provided them with an illusion guide, who told them about local attractions:
- The slab they had come for is one of the city’s famous sites, covered by a magical dome to protect it from damage.
- The tower, where the head of Lux Astra, a powerful wizard named Sevadi Osirian, lives and works.
- An ice sculpture depicting a girl one and a half to two times the height of an average humanoid. The adventurers concluded that this was a living creature transformed into ice by the “cold sorrow.”
- A house up for auction. Examining the place where a name plaque once hung, the heroes concluded that this was the home of their alter-egos from the time of Tiamat’s banishment—Aust, Bro, and the others.
After speaking with Lux Astra’s manager—a young tabaxi named Fasir Ramur, who was at the audition—they learned that the house had once belonged to a group of adventurers, but their heirs could no longer be located, so it would be sold at auction. However, if an heir could be found and could prove their right to ownership, they could reclaim the house—though they would need to pay off the accumulated 400-year utility debt of 20,000 mysteries.
Since Bro knows he is a descendant of the very Brothor Lutger, he decided to go to the monastery to find proof of his right to the inheritance. Essu went with him.
