“You may hate. You may resist. But you will obey.”
Type: Magical Item (Cursed), Rare
Attunement: Not required (automatically activates upon wearing)
Description:
The Slave Collar is a symbol of submission in Dergorai, a magical artifact that every slave must wear if their masters wish to maintain control. There is no ransom, no removal, and no unlocking—the collar fuses with the flesh, leaving a scar even after removal.
Forged from dark, grim metal fused with Living Crystal, it glows with a faint, suppressive light that drains the will of its wearer. Delicate runic lines cover its surface, pulsating with a dim crimson glow that intensifies upon activation.
Curse:
- The collar cannot be removed by normal means.
- Attempting to destroy the collar is lethal for the wearer—they take 6d10 necrotic damage.
- Only powerful magic (Wish spell or divine intervention) can permanently sever its connection.
Collar Effects:
Forced Obedience:
- Any command spoken in the Duergar language (or by a duergar) must be obeyed.
- If the slave resists, they must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 10).
- On a failure, they instantly comply, regardless of their will.
- On a success, they can resist but suffer 1d6 psychic damage due to searing pain.
Brand of Submission:
- The collar fuses with the flesh and cannot be removed by normal means.
- Any attempt to break it fails, and the collar sends a magical signal to the master.
Master’s Mark:
- The collar’s master always knows the exact location of the slave as long as the collar is worn.
- Detection radius: 10 miles (though in Dergorai, arcane amplifiers enhance this range significantly).
- Some guards use magical compasses to track the wearer’s precise position.
Voice of the Master:
- The master can transmit verbal commands remotely through the collar.
- The slave hears the order directly in their mind, even if they are miles away from their master.
