Hidden behind stone walls overgrown with ancient ivy, Rakot Castle stands tall and silent above the settlement. Its dark towers rise like vigilant sentinels, guarding secrets of the past. Though the noble Rakot family left these lands long ago, the castle remains a symbol of their former power and enigma.
Exterior & Grounds
Stone Wall: A tall wall wrapped in ivy surrounds the castle grounds. It appears ancient but still strong. The wrought-iron gate, forged from black metal, is always open, allowing anyone to step inside.
Garden: Within the castle’s grounds lies a remarkable garden, well-kept even in winter. Snow never lingers long here, as if an unseen hand ensures it stays pristine. Those who watch carefully may notice the snow melting on its own.
Castle Structure
The main building consists of three large towers and four distinct levels, each with a unique purpose:
First Floor:
- Ballroom: A grand space with high ceilings and a massive fireplace adorned with carved scenes from the Rakot family’s history. Dust covers the floor, but the room still carries the aura of former splendor.
- Hallway & Cloakroom: A long corridor leads to an antechamber with ancient wardrobes that seem to await long-lost guests.
- Kitchen: A vast kitchen equipped with several ovens and a sturdy wooden table. The shelves are still lined with dishes, untouched for years.
Second Floor:
- Master’s Study: A cozy room with bookshelves, a writing desk, and a chair by the window. Old documents and ink supplies remain scattered across the desk.
- Bedrooms: Several large bedrooms with heavy beds and rich, though dusty, fabrics.
Third Floor:
- Storage Rooms: Numerous locked chests, shelves with boxes, and antique ceramic jars. Rumors suggest this level hides the family’s lost treasures.
Fourth Floor:
- Arcane Room: A chamber dedicated to magic and astronomy. It contains a rune-inscribed circle, an aged telescope, and an altar for rituals.
- Tower Access: Three towers are connected by walkways offering views of the settlement and the Sunset Shadow mountain.
Mystical Features
Ever-Kept Garden: The garden remains immaculate, though no one has ever seen anyone tending it. Perhaps magic—or the Rakot spirits—are to thank.
Sealed Entrance: The castle’s main entrance is protected by a magical lock inscribed with arcane sigils, difficult to break (DC 25).
Mysterious Sounds: Locals claim to hear footsteps, quiet music, or laughter from within the castle at night—despite no one living there.
Rakot Castle is a place where grandeur and secrecy intertwine. It lures adventurers and scholars alike, though townsfolk give it a wide berth, saying only: “We don’t go there.”
