Session 6
On the mighty black ravens, the heroes continued their journey from Stellar Tower to the Northern Mountains, home of Nameless One. When they reached the halfway point, as evening drew in, the weary wanderers decided to spend the night at the edge of the forest near the river to think about their future route in the morning. Zorya and Raimi built a fire, in the warmth of which Serena Worth was gradually recovering from her recent horrors. Nameless and Danaya fished a large salmon, providing dinner for all. Meanwhile, Essu went out to explore and discovered a strange shapeless creature covered in rotting plants. Attempting to get away from the creature, he unwittingly led it towards the camp.
The creature showed aggression, and once again the heroes had to take up arms. Essou took the form of a giant dark dog and grabbed the monster by the throat and managed to overpower it. The monster was a miconite, a humanoid mushroom, though these creatures only live in the depths of the underground, and this one seemed to be subject to some sort of magic. Zorya tried to uncover the source of this magic, but found herself under its influence and heard a voice calling her into the unknown. She was unable to resist, and her companions had to hold her all night. In the morning the magic weakened and Zorya regained control of her body.
Determined to investigate the origin of the strange magic, the heroes sent young Sirena Worth back to Stellar Tower on Essa’s ravens to keep her safe from danger. Zorya was able to determine where her magical connection led her, and soon the party found the entrance to a cave near the riverbed. Inside, they saw a vast expanse with a Myconite settlement frozen and destroyed by frost magic. The answers, it seemed to them, were to be found in a tower at the back of the cave. The tower was inhabited by a crude and ignorant goliath named Bjorn Stormrider, whose wizard wife was trying to help the Myconites who were suffering from the birth of weak offspring. She ended up creating an artifact, of which she became a prisoner.
The artifact looked like a cauldron standing on a table covered in runes. Inside the cauldron raged a blizzard, with a shrunken goliath’s wife at its center. Danaya studied the enchantress’ notes and tried the ritual to free her. The enchantress did indeed free herself, but the entire party of adventurers found themselves sucked into the cauldron. A pair of goliaths were in no hurry to help them. Inside the blizzard, the heroes were in danger of perishing if not for the foresight of Zori, who was able to create potions of flight from the reagents she had. After drinking the potions, they were all able to escape the cauldron and defeat the treacherous pair.
Raimi attempted to examine the artifact, but accidentally damaged it. The magic contained in the cauldron flowed into Nameless, leaving many unsolved mysteries. After the artifact was destroyed, the frost in the cave began to melt, and to avoid suffocating from the smell of decomposing myconites, the heroes hurried to get out, sealing the entrance to keep the evil out.
