Where is the Necromancer? Are You the Necromancer?

In the grim settlement of Bator, the brave heroes spent several days preparing and gathering information. Following the directions of the guard Surim, they set out towards the settlement of Nekar, where, according to their sources, a necromancer resided. Finding him proved easy: signs in multiple languages stood in front of his lair. However, the heroes’ hearts were filled with determination, and, unshaken by fear, they stepped into the dark cave. A grim voice, like an incantation, urged them to flee, but it failed to break their resolve.

On their path lay treacherous traps: mines lurking like dormant predators, and hordes of risen dead whose silent watch called for oblivion. Braving the darkness and trials, the heroes reached the cave’s depths, where the truth was revealed— the necromancer was no dark sorcerer but a gnome, hastily trying to escape through a narrow side passage.

Wasting no time, the fearless warriors pursued him and soon discovered an underground gnome base—a secret brotherhood known as “The Wind of Freedom.” These gnomes made their living by freeing slaves and collecting ransoms for their release. They had bribed the guards of Bator, orchestrating a cunning scheme: the guards would throw slaves into the Serades River, while the gnomes set up nets to catch them and secretly ferry them to freedom.

Kar, a gnome and the leader of “The Wind of Freedom,” listened to the heroes, learned that they had been sent by Surim, and made them an offer. He revealed that Surim himself was the very guard who had been bribed, aware of their secret and capable of exposing their operations. Kar proposed that the heroes either kill Surim or bring him to Nekar. In return, he promised each of them 200 gold pieces and, as an advance, gifted them a map of the first tier of the Litara Dungeon.

Thus, the legend of the necromancer turned out to be nothing more than a myth, crafted to ward off unwanted visitors, while the true conspiracy exposed the treachery of a guard consumed by greed.
