Session 46: The Last Day of Lux Astra?

After a thrilling day at the circus, the adventuring party decided to take a break and spend a day in Lux Astra before continuing their mission. Stepping through the portal and emerging from the asteroid, they barely had time to breathe in the fresh air when the ground trembled beneath their feet, followed by a powerful explosion from the city center. Panic spread through the streets—some fled from the epicenter, while others peered out of their homes, curious to see what had happened. Without hesitation, the party rushed toward the source of the blast, unaware of the events they were about to be swept into.

The explosion’s epicenter turned out to be Fregnard’s workshop. The master artificer was desperately trying to save his life’s work, struggling against the flames that engulfed the building. Upon spotting the group, he pleaded for their help. Wasting no time, Fenris used ice magic to quell the fire. At Fregnard’s request, the adventurers searched the workshop for the magical crystals that powered Lux Astra’s mechanical guardians—but they were nowhere to be found. Even more alarming, it became clear that someone had broken into Fregnard’s private study. After reporting the intrusion and noticing strange behavior among the guardians, the group decided to follow one of them.

Meanwhile, the tremors in Lux Astra continued. Joined by Fregnard, the heroes made their way to the site of the magical boiler that sustained the city’s presence in the Astral Plane. As they approached, they found the area guarded by mechanical sentinels—but now, they no longer obeyed their creator.

Realizing the threat, the group chose to split up. Danaya and Fenris, using invisibility and teleportation magic, infiltrated the boiler chamber. Surina, Saya, Brotor, and Fregnard headed to the central tower in search of Sevadi.

Using Saya’s magic, they entered the tower and discovered that the guardians were performing a mysterious ritual over the skull of Patris. After dispatching the sentries and recovering the skull, the group, realizing Sevadi was not there, rushed to aid Danaya and Fenris at the boiler.

Meanwhile, Danaya and Fenris learned that the earthquakes were caused by the crazed guardians attempting to destroy the magical boiler. Only Sevadi, wielding arcane power worthy of his father, was holding back the collapse, sustaining the magical barrier. Knowing he couldn’t hold out much longer, Danaya and Fenris joined the battle, hoping their allies would arrive in time.

A desperate battle erupted. Empowered by Fenris’s magic, Danaya transformed into a massive red gorilla with a tiefling’s tail and the horns of an archdevil, launching into brutal melee. Fenris, under relentless magical assault, was slowly pushed back. The battle intensified. In a final, terrible move, the mechanical warriors triggered self-destruction, shattering the barrier and killing Sevadi. With its protection gone, the boiler was struck—and the fate of Lux Astra now hangs in the balance.
