In the dark alleys of Dergorai lies the Slave Trade District—a place where fates are decided by gold, and power is measured by the number of subjugated. There are no illusions of equality here: anyone who is not a dark dwarf either pays exorbitant prices or wears a collar. The murmur of deals, the heavy steps of armed guards, and the distant cries of those who have already accepted their fate merge into the monotonous rhythm of the relentless machine that drives the trade in living souls.
Narrow stone streets lead to the central square, home to the “Ring of the Enslaved”—the main slave market. Along the stone walls, cages hold captives of various races: humans, dwarves, orcs, and dragonborn alike. Sellers, clad in armor and strict dark robes, loudly call out prices, promising buyers strong laborers, obedient servants, or exotic gladiators.
Lining the square are establishments where slaves can not only be bought but also trained or “processed” before sale. Among these, “The Black Shackles” stands out—a forge where magical collars are crafted, designed to prevent escapes. The air is thick with the smell of hot metal, burned flesh, and the dampness of underground caves.
The district is patrolled by guards under the command of Inquisitor Drakhard the Ruthless, who ensures that transactions proceed without disruption and that any attempt at rebellion is crushed before it begins. Under his authority are “The Branded”, elite warriors whose bodies bear the symbols of Dergorai’s dominance. They do not negotiate, they do not show mercy—their blades speak for them.
Deep within the district, hidden among narrow passages and secret halls, are underground establishments where whispers of escapes, uprisings, and shadowy dealings can be heard. One such place is the tavern “Shackles and Chatter”, where, alongside slave traders, those seeking to break free or acquire valuable information gather. Here, over a mug of ale, one can hear stories of fugitives, encounter spies, or perhaps become part of a grand scheme.
Even deeper, in the darkest part of the district, stands “The Rusted Keep”—a place where only those willing to sell their souls for a chance at freedom dare to enter. Smugglers, former slaves, and those who know what the walls whisper at night dwell here. The air is thick with the scent of dampness, old iron, and dried blood, but it is here that one might find a way to change their fate—or lose it forever.
Notable NPCs
Inquisitor Drakhard the Ruthless
“A slave is a resource. And resources must not fail.”
Drakhard is the chief enforcer of order in the Slave Trade District. He does not tolerate disobedience and views slaves as nothing more than commodities. His long cloak conceals his plated armor, and his eyes gleam with a cold, steely light.
Mistress of “The Black Shackles” – Skaldur the Cruel Brand
“I forge chains that shatter hope.”
Skaldur is the blacksmith responsible for crafting the strongest and most brutal shackles in all of Dergorai. Her magical collars can suppress both magic and strength, rendering even the most dangerous fugitives powerless.
