In the very heart of Dergorai, amidst the clanging of hammers, the grinding of saws, and the flickering tongues of fire, lies the Craftsmen’s Quarter—a place where the artistry and skill of the dark dwarves are forged into reality. Here, every stone remembers the thousands of strikes from tools, every building breathes with the labor of its creators, and the air is thick with the scent of coal smoke, molten metal, and lubricating oil.

This quarter never sleeps—even in the darkest hours, the forges burn, and the hum of machinery never ceases. Discipline and precision rule here, for any imperfection is a stain on a master’s honor. Workers wear leather aprons, their hands are covered in scars, and their eyes gleam with a hunger for new commissions.

The primary rule of the quarter states: “Only quality speaks for the master.” Cheap counterfeits are not tolerated, and anyone who dares to sell poor goods risks losing not only their reputation but also their fingers.

Structure of the Quarter

The Craftsmen’s Quarter is divided into several key zones, each responsible for the production of specific goods:

  • The Forge Row – home to Dergorai’s most skilled blacksmiths and armorers. Here, both simple weapons and axes are crafted, as well as enchanted artifacts capable of turning the tide of battle.
  • The Jeweler’s Alley – a network of workshops where rough stones and precious metals are transformed into magnificent jewelry, amulets, and clan seals.
  • The Mechanical Gallery – a labyrinth of workshops where smith-constructors craft intricate mechanisms, from automated doors to battle golems.
  • The Alchemical Valley – a small yet vital part of the quarter where alchemists develop potions, oils, powders, and other substances that enhance metal or ignite fire in stone.
  • The Masters’ Market – a grand square where every craftsman can present their goods for sale. Here, everything is traded, from simple tools to relics forged from ancient blueprints.

Atmosphere and Sounds

Upon entering the quarter, one is immediately hit by the dry, dense air, heavy with the scents of molten metal, coal, and wood. The noise never stops—the hammering of anvils, the hissing of cooling steel, the scraping of files against metal, and the quiet murmurs of deal-making and orders being placed.

There are no idle wanderers here—everyone is either working or searching for a master to complete a commission. Anyone who wastes another’s time is at risk of being rudely thrown out.

“The value is not in the gem, but in how you cut it.”

A jeweler with impeccable eyesight and a sharp character. Valmira only takes commissions from those who can prove their gold is worthy of her craft.
